Jaxon Buell was diagnosed with an unusual birth defect before birth meaning he was born with missing part of the skull and brain. The baby was expected to die within hours of his birth by doctors but he survived and celebrated his first birthday in August.

The baby’s parents Brandon and Brittany Buell found out about the matter with the baby’s brain during an ultrasound. Despite knowing the facts and consequences, the Florida couple held out hope and proceeded with the pregnancy. Jaxon was born on the 17th of August 2014 and after his birth, he was identified with anencephaly meaning his cerebral cortex is nearly missing and with the malformation of his cerebellum. Recently, his diagnosis was changed to microhydranencephaly. However, Jaxon defied all odds by not just surviving but celebrating his first birthday and started to talk and walk. Doctors never imagined that Jaxon would be able to accomplish these.

Parents Brandon and Brittany are dealing with the parenthood dramas every day and also, with the knowledge that every day with their son could be his last day. Jaxon’s parents wrote on the “Jaxon Strong” Facebook page that they are giving their baby the most comfortable, happiest and most fulfilling life possible as they know how precious his days are with them.

Jaxon’s life can help doctors advance in medicine by studying and learning more about his brain. His parents believe that his rare neurological condition and his diagnosis could help the medical world as there is much room to study about the human brain.

It is really amazing and heartwarming to see Jaxon celebrate his first birthday that every parent looks forward to. We all wish him many more in the coming years.
