An unusual rescue operation took place on Monday in the region of Highlands. A resident found a female dog trapped in a septic hole measuring three meters deep.
The Environment police went in place and the operation was led by Corporal Jankee of this unit and the Animal Welfare Unit officers, in collaboration with the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW). The dog is being kept in custody by the MSAW until its owner comes to claim it.
The law says that if an animal is abandoned, the owner is liable to a fine of Rs 15,000 and imprisonment not exceeding six months.
